The boys decided to hike Mount Tallac today. 4 of them went up. I decided to have a rest day(good idea). It was a grueling 3200 foot climb to 9735 feet. They said the track was set so steep that their skins were slipping. They came home with big smiles on their face. Bill said they were pleasantly fatigued. I spent some time with Nimbus walking him and we went for a short cc ski right from the house.
Bill and I went to town and did some errands and Jim had a great pasta dinner ready for us when we got home.

Another blue sky day!! We got up and went to Kirkwood. Jim had an early photo/video shoot so Bill and I just had a hot drink and waited up there until the lift opened at 9:00. The skiing was amazing 18-24 inchs of fresh snow with blue sky. I decided after a few runs to hop on the expert only lift and go up and do a double black diamond before it got all messy up there. I choose the wall to ski....I didn't jump off the cornice to get in, but I made my way in the way I do and went for it. I thought if I start cartwheeling down the mountain there is enough snow to stop me and it should be a soft landing....turns out it went pretty good. Bill and I found a few little secret spots to hike that still had fresh snow near the end of the day.
We were invited to Karen's parents tonight for dinner which was really nice. I guess they have a family dinner every Thursday night. Chuck & Jan were so good to us. We also got to meet Karens brother Steve, his wife and their adorable son Ryan who is 5. Ryan whispered to his Grandma "can we have candles on the table because we have special friends here?"....it was such a nice evening. We had a hottub and lovely meal and even got some treats to bring home with us. I just wish Karen was here!!!!
What a day! We love it here!!

Good snow day! We hiked at Waterhouse. The conditions were really great...fun in the powder!
The climb was a little grueling for me..I wouldn't recommend climbing up to 9200 feet with bronchitis..it beats you up...but it was so worth it...the guys were patient and gave me a couple breaks on the way up(very nice of them as I know they were itching to get to the top and ski). It was blowing pretty good up top, but we found some shelter in the tress and managed to get our skins off and get organized for the ski down. I so love that weightless feeling you get when the snow is like this.
Bill and I had a little break and some lunch and then broke some new trail right from the house. It was snowing the whole day here..should make for a good day tomorrow too. We might go back to Kirkwood for the morning and then try Waterhouse again in the afternoon.
Nice to talk to my parents last night and know they are having a good visit with Gerry and Lorne and the twins..what a nice surprise for them!

Got up this morning and decided to go for a cc ski and to the hot springs. Jim drove us there and the drive was pretty incredible. The rock formations were really cool and it seemed there was snow to one side of us and desert to the other...really incredible. I was thinking there is going to be no snow for us to ski on, but the ski conditions were very good. Just being out in the open air felt like a little piece of heaven to me. I took it all in....the beautiful trees and their sweet scent, the sounds of the river running along side the trail, the sage bushes just so beautiful. I could feel the warmth of the sun beating down on my dark clothes and thought this has got to cure me.
We met up with the maintenance man on the way in to the park and he mentioned to us that the lifeguards call in sick a lot and that the hot springs might not be open...once we hit the trails we were like "we are so jumping that fence if the lifeguard doesn't show!"..we were all looking so forward to our soak in the hot springs. Luckily the lifeguard did show up and we got our time in the hot springs....does life get any better than this? The guys talked me into doing a jump in the cold pool....yikes...that was refreshing!! All the minerals that were in that pool have to help me heal!
Bye for now
Deb
PS Karen I think Nimbus likes us! Wish you were here!
